Ride To Work : The Solutions Part 4
5 tips riding to work during fasting in Ramadan
Being a muslim, fasting in ramadan does not stop you from riding to work. I still ride to work during fasting. Here are some tips that i would like to share with all the riders out there who rides to work.
Tip #1 Consume foods that make you full
During Ramadan, always take your sahur.Never ride with an empty stomach unless you are trying for a weight loss. But for us, we just wanna ride to work so let skip that for the next month. During Sahur, It is best to consume some of the foods that really make you full for the entire day. To give you energy during the ride.Personally i found that eating capati or roti nan during sahur will make you full for the entire day . Other than that
Oatmeal : is a complex carbohydrate which takes longer to digest — hence it releases energy slowly, keeping you feeling full for longer. It also keeps blood sugar and insulin levels stable, which helps prevent fat storage. Oatmeal is the most satisfying breakfast cereal, providing more protein per serving than any other grain. Mix it with yoghurt or skimmed milk and it’ll keep you full all morning.
Apple : High water content and ample fibre is the reason why you feel full after eating an apple. An apple’s skin contains pectin soluble fibre that is a natural appetite suppressant. Seems like an apple a day keeps the weight away.
Dates(Kurma) : Normally, it is observed that one may feel hungry if sugar levels are reduced in the body irrespective of the condition of the stomach. Dates can well serve the purpose, because these provide energy.
Tip #2 Drink plenty of water
Energy - During sahur, is best to drink up plenty of water to keep your body properly hydrated. You don't want to get thirsty when you are riding to work during fasting.Being dehydrated can sap your energy and make you feel tired -- even mild dehydration of as little as 1 or 2 percent of your body weight. If you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated -- and this can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, dizziness and other symptoms.
Tip #3 Easy ride/Leisure Ride
Ride slow or at a measured pace. You will not work up too much of a sweat.
Try to get out early from your normal day since you're riding at a slow pace. You might not want to get into the RUSH mode.. thus making you increase your pace.
Tip #4 Plan a new route
Try to plan a new route for example if previously your path requires you to climb few hills, try to find another route with less climbing. Take a bit of extra time and enjoy the ride
Tip #5 Reciting Zikrullah
Since we are in the Holy Month of Ramadan, why not we fill our time while cycling with zikrullah (SUBHANALLAH,ALHAMDULILLAH,ALLAH HU AKHBAR, Insyallah the journey will be a blessed one.
