Ride To Work : The Solutions Part 6

5 tips on parking your bike at the office

When you arrived at the office during your ride to work, im sure the first thing that comes to your mind is, where do you park your bike? How to keep your bike secure?

Here are 5 tips that you can use to park your bike at the office.

1# Parking inside the office

Always always always try to find a way to park inside the building you work. The best place is inside your building or somewhere near to your office eg. Store room, boiler room.Like me, luckily my boss allowed me to park inside the office so i don't have any problem or worrying about someone stealing my bike.Try your best to use Tips #1 as possible this is the best and the safest location to park your bike.

So how do my boss allowed me to park in the office at the first place..? Basically when i first started ride to work, i have issue also parking my bike.. even i scared to park inside the office eventho i have read on some of the guys in San Francisco who commute bike daily doesn't have any problem parking their bike in the office. But then we are in Malaysia.. things are few years back than other countries in terms of Commuting by bike, ride to work.

So one fine day.. i decided to put my bike in the office especially in the pantry without getting anyone permission even my boss.Surprisingly day by day.. no one coming up to me asking or lecturing give me a warning on not park my bike here.. even my boss didn't mention anything about that.. so i guess.. my ass and my bike ass saved!! :).

So guys.. The best solution is not to ask anyone but to just do it. as kenkifer said "If you ask , you will be giving authority over you life to someone else". There's a dozen reasons for that person to say "no" and only one for saying "yes". Hey.. its better to try rather that not trying you'll never know your boss kind enough to allowed you to park your bike beside your desk.. who knows man :)

However if you to get park in the office.. try to pick your spot wisely. Be sure to park your bike where you do not obstruct anyone's way. And try to cover your bike with something, blanket maybe so that it will not be so obvious in the office.

2# Parking at the Security Guard Post

If the first tip does not work. hang in there pal.. is not the end of the world. So stop whining and try to find another solution for it. The best way try to park you bike at the Guard post.Try to talk with the guard near your office. Make a deal with them.. perhaps 1 Ringgit perday for a bike parking facility with a 24 hours guarding your bike haha. But at least it still safer rather parking outside your office without someone looking your bike.

3# Parking your bike where its visible to your eyes.

Try parking your bike within the range that are visible to your eyes. For example you are able to see you bike from your windows of your office.Try to find a closer location to park your bike. If possible try to find a location which is near to your windows where you can easily see it.

4# Parking at public places

For this tips.. its kinda risky if you are commuting an expensive bike such a Scott, Corratec,Bianchi, Giant. Chances of the parts being stolen or the bike itself is high. So if you riding one of the brand that ive mention or you know that the bike itself cost more than your salary, i guess its time to find another cheap bike for your commuting.

If your not using any kind of this brand.. If you find your self in this situation. Always have a good lock to lock your bike. Try to lock your bike against a wall or tree or pole. Public place is where people passing every minute. While thieves will see your bike, they are not going to cut your lock in public. But as for me.. i still prefer you use Tips #1

5# Try to find a 2nd hand bike for commuting.

Try to find a cheap 2nd hand bike for commuting. Its better to have a cheap 2nd Bike for commuting to avoid from being stolen. If your bike get stolen, the cost is still lower comparing losing the colorful brandy expensive bike.
