Preparation for the race - Tire profiles

I've been counting the days for the race.Basically the race will be offroading/cross country scenario. I had to replace my existing tires for a better grip and traction while offroading and climbing since i'm always on the tarmac.. more to cycling in the city rather than offroading so my current tire profile is not quite suitable for offroad.I need to find a suitable tire profile for offroading. So few days back after doing some research on the internet and with the money i saved from quitting smoking, I decided to buy a set of Continental tires "VAPOR" model for my bike.

Specs:

Tyre : Vapor
Dimensions : 26x2.1
Weight : 620
Rec. Inflation Pressure (psi) : 50
Max. Inflation Pressure (psi) : 65
Colour : All black
Bead : wire

Quoted from the Continental Website :

The Marathon specialist

Designed as an intermediate tyre for cross country trail riding and racing, the Vapor concentrates on fast rolling, using the Gravity Arc tread design. Wide centre lugs keep the tyre rolling fast whilst the Arcs (lug bases) in the shoulders create stable handling under cornering for predictable handling. Worth a try for XC marathon racers looking for faster lap times and good puncture protection. Wire & folding bead versions available.
