Bike Hack : How to mod a broken mobile phone holder to be a headlamp for your bike.

Yesterday during my ride to work, i saw someone throwing away a broken car mobile phone holder. I guess i might have an idea on what to do with the phone holder. So i took it and brought it home.

The phone holder looks like still in good condition except the inner part of the holder itself have broken so it wasn't able to grip or hold the mobile.But then.. we still have a use for this :).


So what do you need : -

headlamp

Ussually the gear that we wear on the head. I choose this type of light since it is suitable and compatible for our project.

Cable tie

For this project, we required to use the cable tie. This is the most easiest and quickest way to tie up things.You can find it at any local hardware store.

So lets start hacking the holder shall we :)

First we remove the base which is the rubber part that stick to the window screen in the car.

Then we open up the lever to the maximum. This gonna be the base for the headlamp later.

Next, put the headlamp onto the base and squezee the holder to hold the headlamp. Don't worry if its not going to hold the headlamp. We will tie it with a cable tie.

Then we tie the headlamp to the phone holder base. It should be easy since the headlamp itself have the hole to make way for the cable tie.Be sure to tie up both side of the panel.

After tying the cable tie on both sides. It should hold firmly

After that, we will put it on the handle bar... again we need to use the cable tie to tie it to the stem. Make sure the stick is extend over the bar so that later you can have an adjustable headlamp so that you can adjust accordingly to your riding :).Then tie up the stick to the bike stem. Make sure you tie it tightly so it doesn't move.

Waaaalaaa.. now you got a cheap solution but with a high tech look for your headlamp :)
