DIY : How to make your own Chainstay Protector

If you ride a mountain bike, you might have noticed that when you hit a large bump or jump the bike off an obstacle or going thru downhill, your chain slaps the metal below it and makes unsightly scratches. The clunking noise from the chain slaps really make me nuts.

Ussualy to solve this issue, we need a chain protector. This chain protector is use to prevent the chain from slapping your precious frame. You can find the chain protector at any local bike shop such as "Lizard Skin" and other chain protector which have a printed brand name such as shimano or giant.

As for me, instead of buying the expensive Chain protector, why not we make our own cheap chain protector. It cheaper, last longer and easy to make.

So what do you need :

Step 1

Gather all the tools and materials

Things you need

1) Scissor
2) Cable Tie
3) Unused old bicycle tubes

Step 2

Start by Cutting the tube at an approximate lenght of 6 to 8 inches (depending on your bike).

Step 3

Now that we have a portion of this tube cut out of the whole thing, lets cut the tube long ways so that later we can wrap the tube around the chainstay

Step 4

Now that you already have the cutting tube, wrap the tube tightly around the chain stay

Step 5

Once you have wrapped the tube around, Use the cable tie and tie at the end of each section

Walaaaaa now you have your own home made chain protector.

Till we meet again.

Happy Riding!!
